A Message from the Principal

A Message from our School Principal, Mrs Kylie Fisher

Dear Montrose Primary Families,

Unfortunately, after a solid Term 2 start, the last couple of weeks have been unsettled as a result of an extended snap lockdown and the recent severe weather event that has effected our community significantly. Our focus following this interruption has been on student and family wellbeing and re-establishing calm predicatable school routines again. As a result of the interruptions a couple of timelines have moved including reports and Prep enrolments which I have detailed below. I do believe that our upcoming break has come at a good time for our community to recover, recharge and reset for a great Term 3.

The Department of Education has extended the due date for schools to submit report data. This has been done following the recent lockdown to allow schools to focus on wellbeing and have a greater period of time to finalise assessments with children. As a result the reports and student portfolios will be go home at the end of the second week back (Friday July 23rd).

Prep 2022 Enrolments
Enrolments for Prep 2022 have been extended until the end of week 3 Term 3 (Friday July 30th) to allow the opportunity for final tours and submission of enrolment forms. If you are a current family with a child starting Prep in 2022 please send in your enrolment form ASAP to ensure your child’s position.

Student Free Day
We were scheduled to have a student free day on the first day back of Term 3 (July 12th) for our staff to undertake SMART Spelling professional learning. Due to the recent interruptions we have postponed this to the first day back of Term 4 (Monday Oct 4th).

We have signed the contract to proceed with Compass. To make the transition across as smooth as possible we will be running dual systems (Sentral and Compass) until we are fully set up. We will keep you posted with updates as we go.

It is with mixed feelings that we farewell two staff members at the end of this term. Shannon Tibballs has accepted a teaching position at North Ringwood Primary School commencing Term 3. We wish Shannon all the very best with the opportunities this new position presents. His position has been advertised and we plan to interview over the holidays with a hopeful start date of Day 1 Term 3.

Yiheng Ma has accepted a position at Alphington Grammar as a secondary maths teacher. Yiheng has a Bachelor of Science and has this year been doing a refresher course in Mathematics at RMIT. We wish Yiheng every success with her new teaching focus.

I wish all families a very relaxing and well deserved break.

Take care,
