Maths sessions at Montrose Primary School aim to:
  • Connect to authentic experiences
  • Address several outcomes in the one task
  • Differentiate through various entry and exit points
  • every lesson has simplifications and extensions to cater for all learning needs
  • Activities have an explicit purpose with clear learning intentions
  • Make, draw, record/write, talk: Incorporate various learning styles/multiple intelligences
  • Problem solving is embedded in the task
  • Incorporate ICT and internet research
  • Integrate other areas of the curriculum where there are natural connections
  • Students investigate/create and use their own data
  • Opportunity for collaborative learning




In Term 3 every year, students complete a Maths Talent Quest (MTQ) project. This is a rich task that may cover various areas of the Mathematics curriculum. Upon completion, teachers select 2x Excellence winners and 1x Rising Maths Star winner per classroom. Winners receive their awards at assembly and have their projects displayed around the school.
