Digital Technology

At Montrose Primary School, we are preparing students for the future by equipping them with the skills and confidence to use digital technologies in meaningful and responsible ways.

Our Digital Technologies program is aligned with the Victorian Curriculum and focuses on developing students’ understanding of how digital systems work, how to create digital solutions, and how to use technology safely, ethically and effectively.

Program Highlights:

  • Foundation to Year 6 Curriculum Coverage: Students progressively develop skills in coding, computational thinking, data collection and representation, digital systems, and online safety.

  • Hands-On Learning: Students engage in a range of practical activities including robotics, programming (using platforms such as Scratch and Blockly), multimedia creation, and using devices like iPads, laptops, and micro:bits.

  • Design Thinking: Through inquiry-based learning and problem-solving tasks, students follow the design process—plan, create, test and evaluate digital solutions to real-world problems.

  • Cyber Safety & Digital Citizenship: We place strong emphasis on helping students become safe, respectful, and responsible users of technology. Our school uses eSmart and other resources to support safe online behaviours.

  • Integration Across the Curriculum: Digital tools are used to enhance learning across all subjects, including literacy, numeracy, the arts, and inquiry. Students learn to use technology to research, collaborate, create and communicate.

  • Future-Focused Skills: Our students develop the critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and technical skills they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

At Montrose Primary School, we aim to inspire young learners to be confident, ethical users and creators of technology who are ready for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
