Disability Inclusion

At Montrose Primary School, we believe that every student has the right to access high-quality education and to feel valued, supported, and included. Our Disability Inclusion Program is designed to ensure all students, regardless of ability or need, can participate, learn, and thrive.

We are proud to be part of the Victorian Government’s Disability Inclusion reform, which provides schools with additional resources and support to better meet the diverse needs of our learners.

Our Approach to Inclusion:

  • Strength-Based Focus: We recognise and build upon each student’s strengths, talents and interests, while supporting areas of need in a respectful and individualised way.

  • Inclusive Classrooms: Students with additional learning needs are supported in their regular classrooms wherever possible. Teachers use differentiated teaching strategies and flexible learning options to ensure all students can engage meaningfully in learning.

  • Tiered Support: Our school follows a tiered support model, offering:

    • Tier 1 – Quality differentiated teaching practice for all students

    • Tier 2 – Small group targeted interventions

    • Tier 3 – Individualised and intensive support where required

  • Inclusive Education Team: Our staff includes Education Support Staff (ES), a Disability Inclusion Leader, and classroom teachers who work together to develop and deliver personalised learning plans and adjustments.

  • Collaboration with Families: We work closely with families and allied health professionals to understand each student’s needs and goals, ensuring consistency and shared strategies between home and school.

  • Professional Learning: Staff engage in ongoing training to build inclusive practices and ensure a culture of equity and respect.

  • Student Voice and Belonging: We are committed to fostering a school culture where all students feel a strong sense of belonging and are empowered to participate fully in all aspects of school life.

At Montrose PS, inclusion is not just something we do—it’s part of who we are. We are dedicated to creating an environment where every child is known, respected and supported to succeed.
