Schoolwide Positive Behaviour

At Montrose Primary School, we use a School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) approach to create a safe, respectful and positive learning environment for all students.

Our three behaviour expectations are:

Be Respectful

We treat ourselves, others and our environment with care and consideration.

Be Safe

We make choices that help keep ourselves and others safe at school.

Be Your Best

We strive to do our best in our learning, behaviour and interactions with others.

These expectations are explicitly taught and reinforced across all areas of the school, helping students understand what positive behaviour looks like in different settings.

Recognising Positive Behaviour

We believe that positive behaviour grows when it is noticed and acknowledged. Staff provide students with timely and specific positive feedback when they demonstrate our school expectations.

Students earn tally marks for displaying behaviours that align with our SWPBS expectations. Tally marks are recorded at the front of each classroom and contribute to a collective class goal.

Our SWPBS Tree

When a class reaches 100 tally marks, they earn a leaf to add to our school SWPBS Tree. This encourages teamwork and celebrates the positive contributions of every student.

As classes continue to earn leaves, our SWPBS Tree grows. Once the tree is full, the entire school celebrates with a whole-school reward, recognising the collective effort of our students in creating a positive and supportive school community.

Through SWPBS, we aim to build a culture where positive behaviour is taught, encouraged and celebrated, ensuring every student feels valued, supported and ready to learn.
